News & Events: Lobster Fair 2008
A St. Timothy's Tradition
Since our first Lobster Fair in 1978, St. Timothy's has shared over 40,000 lobsters with friends and neighbors in the Greenville area. This annual Fall event engages essentially all parishioners in some aspect. Proceeds are typically used for Parish Ministries and Outreach, including over $6,000 provided for Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief 2005. Keep reading to find opportunities to be involved or just enjoy the day with us at St. Timothy's.
Fresh Maine Lobsters
Delivered fresh from Maine on the day before the Fair, our 1-¼-lb. lobsters are the highlight of the Fair. Order them live or freshly cooked for only $15 each! Cooked lobsters are steamed on the premises the day of the Fair by members of the parish. In addition to lobsters, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, pizza and other refreshments are served.
Fun, Fun, Fun Activities!
Satisfy your non-lobster cravings at the Bake Sale with mouth-watering items, and stock up on your favorite casseroles at the Frozen Foods Bazaar. The Craft Sale showcases our community's creativity — stop by their Boutique to beautify your surroundings. Children will enjoy activities such as games with prizes. And the traditional Quilt Raffle, featuring a gorgeous handmade quilt from Joyce Wittman, is always a highlight of the Fair.
Please Lend Your Support
Volunteers are always welcome! There's plenty to do well in advance. Help with crafts by attending workshops at Laurie Rudd's (call 252.321.0506), or bring your own crafts by the Church Office in the weeks before the Fair. You can also download Cookies In-A-Jar kits with instructions & hang tags to help with the Craft Sale.
If baking is more your style, prepare your favorite desserts for the Bake Sale, or create casseroles and other frozen delights for the Frozen Foods Bazaar. Help with planning and coordinating children's activities is always welcome, too.
Selling tickets is also a vital part of our Fair's success — sell to friends and neighbors, or plan a lobster party! Even small things can mean a lot, like bringing grocery bags and newspapers (no circulars or comics) to the Church the week before the Fair. On the days around the Fair, you can also help set up, run the Fair, or clean up afterwards.
Check out the sign-up board in the Education Building. Everyone should try to sign up for a couple of hours — it's a great way to experience the fellowship of St. Timothy's!
